Background:
Elyse was born on June 17, 1975 in the small Canadian city of Peterborough,
Ontario. She did averagely in all of her early studies at school, although she
tended not to make many friends, and preferred to be a lone. Her father, Eric
Finn was a Secondary School Teacher was transferred to Kingston Ontario in 1983,
and began to teach at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute. Elyse began
to attend Winston Churchill Public School after the move to Kingston. It was at
this school that she began to break out of her anti social shell, and develop
new and lasting friendship with her classmates. She was suspended a couple of
times for minor offences.
When Elyse entered high school, she elected to attend Kingston Collegiate &
Vocational Institute. It was during her Grade Nine year that she was too meet
her future finance, William Toms. In 1990 the couple began to date as they
finished their grade 10 year. Over the next several years the couple grew even
closer, and despite several fights, they stayed together. In 1994, in the
couple's OAC year Elyse decided to attend the Royal Military College in
Kingston, in order to become an Army Officer, as she had developed an interest
in the Army over the last several years. Will however applied and was accepted
into the Concurrent Ed Program at Queens University, which is also in Kingston.
This was convenient for the couple, who were not looking forward to being in
separate cities.
For the next four years the couple spent as much time as possible together, with
Elyse's busy training schedule and Will's studies. After the graduation ceremony
from RMC in 1998, Will asked Elyse to marry him, she eagerly accepted his offer.
However the wedding had to be put on hold as Elyse was being assigned to the 1st
Brigade, Royal Canadian Regiment in Petawawa, and Will still had another full
year to get his teaching qualifications at MacArthur College in Kingston.
Elyse was shocked to find out that Will had been killed in a horrific car cash
about two days before she was due to ship overseas to Kosovo. About 3 weeks into
he deployment, Serbian Militants attacked the motor convoy that she was in,
several wounding on of her officer friends 2nd Lieutenant Geron Binsiel in the
abdomen. . She managed to pull 2nd Lieutenant Binsiel from the wreckage of the
Cougar she was in. Several minutes later the United States 10th Mountain
arrived, and were able to evac the survivors of the incident. For her actions
the Commander of the 1st Brigade, RCR awarded her the Medal of Bravery.
Elyse was transferred to CFB Kingston, so she could attend the Canadian Staff
College at Fort Frontenac. She had decided to take the Staff Officer course, it
improve her chances of advancing in rank to the senior officer ranks. In October
2001 she was reassigned to be a member of the Canadian Contingent to
Afghanistan. Barely a week after her Tour of Duty started she was in a company
offering Logistic support to the United States Air Force, and her company came
under fire, the Company Commander, Captain Didiano was severely wounded in the
exchange of fire, and was unable to maintain command. Elyse being by default,
took command of the troops near her, and managed to pull Didiano to safety, and
two other enlisted soldiers, suffering two grazing wounds in the process. The
Canadian Contingent Commanding Officer and Executive Officer felt that Elyses
actions to save Captain Didiano, and the two other soldiers was a deed of
outstanding professional manner the brought great honour to the contingent and
the Canadian Forces as a whole and awarded her the Meritorious Service
Decoration for her actions.
The rest of her deployment to Afghanistan as part of the Canadian Contingent of
Operation Athena was relatively uneventful. Most of the time she was stationed
as part of the Logistics reserve in the rear. While she was stationed at an
outpost on the outskirts of Kabul she came under moderate fire from the Taliban
resistance, and was wounded twice, once in the arm and once in the leg. Despite
these wounds she kept up her rate of fire, and with help from 75 reinforcements
from the 3rd Brigade, RCR she was able to repel the attack. Shortly after the
battle, she collapsed do to loss blood. When she recovered a few days later in a
Field Officer, she found that her Commanding Officer had recommended her for a
Star of Courage, which was bestowed upon her a few months later. She was sent
home in early 2002, and was stationed again to CFB Kingston.
Shortly after arriving back at CFB Kingston, Elyse was summoned to speak to her
immediately Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel David Kinsella. She found
that she was to be assigned to an American Operation in Cheyenne Mountain, the
details were sketchy, but she would receive more information when she arrived at
the Base. She spent the first couple of years of her deployment to Cheyenne
Mountain as member of SG-16. She went off-world several times. During one
mission, a member of her team Jackson Callveri was wounded during an exchange of
fire with a company of Jaffa troops loyal to the Gouald Agamemnon. She managed
to pull his body to the gate, however just as she crossed the event horizon she
took a staff blast to her left thigh. She was able to pull both herself and
Callveri through the horizon and arrive safely back at the SGC. She was awarded
her second Medal of Bravery for that action.
Due to her injury she spent several months in rehab, trying to heal and recover
from her wounds. In mid-2005 she was promoted to full Lieutenant by the DND in
Ottawa. She remained on base staff, and acted as a Liason for combat teams, when
SG-16 as disbanded in late 2005, as she had bought a house and settled down in
Colorado, She missed her home in her native land, but she had a job to do as a
Liaison officer for the Canadian Forces to the United States Air Force.
In 2006 Elyse was reassigned as CO of SG-4 and successfully lead the team on a
variety of missions from worlds resembling to Ancient Rome to Medieval Europe.
In 2007 she transferred again to command a new team, although some members of
SG-4 transferred with her, to her new command.
Psychological Profile: Elyse is a kind, warm
hearted person who likes to help others. However when she is in the field she
follows every order to the letter, and is more then willing to put her life on
hold to save theirs. She expects everyone under her command to show her respect,
and will not take any sort of disrespect or disobedience from anyone. |
