Background:
Lieutenant Simon Templar was born on March the 5th 1980 and is the oldest child
of Robert and Isabelle Templar of Adelaide, South Australia. He has one sibling,
a younger sister named Rachel, a Psychology Masters student. Simon moved to
Sydney when he was 16 to get a better education from the University of Sydney.
He graduated from the University with dual Bachelor of Engineering degrees
within 4 years. During his schooling, he signed on for the Officer Tertiary
Recruitment Scheme and joined the University of Sydney's Regiment when he turned
18. Following his formal schooling, Simon completed the General Service Officer
Course at RMC Duntroon. Following his
GSO course, he was posted to the Townsville Barracks of A Company, 1st
Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment as a 1st Lieutenant (the 2nd lowest officer
rank in the Army but 2nd LT is only possible for reserve units, not active
service.)
As an engineer in a regular infantry unit, Simon quickly became the go-to guy
for his unit regarding field repair, fortifications, fields of fire and other
issues that arise in a thinking army. In 2003, Simon was deployed with the Ready
Company Group, a quick
response combat group intended to restore order in the Solomon Islands. While
only a junior officer in A Coy, Simon was able to become an integral part of the
investigation into the death of Australian Protective Service Officer Adam
Dunning. As a reward for
conducting himself appropriately in the RCG, Simon was offered the XO position
in D platoon, A Coy, 2nd RAR.
In 2004, Prime Minister John Howard (head of government of Australia, looks like
a dwarf) reinforced deployment to Iraq and the 2nd RAR were deployed to Iraq as
part of OBG(W). Once there the 2nd RAR were assigned to patrol the Al Muthanna
province in Iraq, the area between Baghdad and Basra, two cities where conflict
occurred daily. Al Muthanna gradually became one of the quieter areas,
especially when compared to Baghdad. Indeed Al Muthanna was the first province
to be considered a green zone and given independence from foreign protection.
Throughout his assignment to Iraq, Simon consistently encountered enemy
combatants. Many of these engaged in combat with Simon's unit. Most of these
attacks were easily beaten off and destroyed in detail. Multiple engagements in
the field also led to a high incidence of injury, including Simon. As a result,
he carries the
Australian version of the purple heart along with ribbons for services rendered
in the Solomon Islands and to the UN, a campaign ribbon for Iraq II, and flight
status wings.
When Simon returned to Australia, after almost two years in Iraq, he was ordered
by his CO to `volunteer' for the officer exchange program with the US. Within a
week he was bound for Colorado. He was trained for approximately a month in SG
tactics and xenotechnology before transfer to SG4, a recon/combat unit for
Stargate Command
based in Cheyenne Mountain.
Simon's first mission was finishing a success when the SGC succumbed to a
foothold situation. At the time SG-4 had been trying to dial up Earth and when a
foothold situation came into effect, Area 111 took control of the gate and SG-4
was diverted to the Beta Gate.
Psychological Profile:
Simon is fiercely independent, no doubt from
growing up without his parents in Sydney. His independence is tempered by his
genuine compassion for other people. He has regularly shown brilliance and
innovation with regard to engineering and science disciplines and as a result
has come to believe that everyone should try to further
their education. He can often be found reading books and has expressed a vivid
interest in Science Fiction. This interest may explain his ready acceptance of
the Star Gate program. Simon has a deep sense of loyalty but his loyalty is
directed not to an ideal of state but to his fellow team mates. He has respect
for most people, even if it is covered by the irreverent brogue that Australians
spout. He has shown that he can remain level-headed in combat situations but has
not been placed in a command position, primarily because of his youth. |
