Military Training and/or Education:
Graduated from the Academy, top ten percent of her class. The contact with NASA,
as afore stated, helped with her knowledge in the area of Astronomy. She has
gone through ever gate simulation ever created, however, has never actually come
face to wormhole with the actual Stargate.
History of Character:
Hayl Portello comes form a traditional Italian family. She is a devout Roman
Catholic, has an odd obsession with pasta, and if you were to ever lay a hand
on/insult a member of her family, you would wish that you had never been born,
at least, you would if you survived the encounter. It has been rumored, that the
Portello family has close ties to the Mafia. This rumor has never been proven,
however, it has also never been denied. There were never such a thing as
"personal space" for her, growing up as she did with more or less her entire
extended family surrounding her at every waking moment, so she never quite
picked up on the art of tact. She's blunt, straightforward, and has a tendency
to be slightly harsh with words.
She was never the smartest in her class, but she always was one of the hardest
workers. Portellos didn't know the meaning of relaxing. Constantly on the go, a
four year/three season athlete, President of National Honor Society, and always
managing to scrape by with a 4.0 average, though it involved a considerable
amount more work than she wished to put into homework.
She went to the Academy, mostly because it offered a challenge, both
academically and physically, and it wasn't far from her home and family. She
excelled there, and went on to gain a bachelors in Astrophysics, minoring
specifically in the study of wormholes, however, she shunned from pursuing a
Ph.D., because it required another good 6 years, and frankly, she was getting
bored of school. She went to war fulfilling the nagging voice in the back of her
mind that said she owed the country something in return for her family's
somewhat less than legal interactions), then to NASA, then onto the Pentagon
where she became involved with the Stargate program. She is currently assigned
to the Stargate Beta Program.
Psychological Profile:
First Lt. Hayl Portello is very confident in herself. Set a challenge before
her, and she'll meet it head on, taking it as a personal insult if she fails.
She is a hard worker, and would make a great CO, if it weren't for her slightly
limited foresight. She is constantly on the move, mentally and physically, and
has a slightly limited attention span.
However, she may put a strain on personal relationships, due to a tendency to
disregard the usual rules of civility. She is honest, blunt, and can be harsh on
the faults of those below herself, as well as above, and on herself.
Having suspected family ties to the Mafia has bred loyalty, and knowledge not to
ask questions when questions shouldn't be asked. Good at following orders.
Overall, Lt. Portello exhibits qualities of even-temperedness, loyalty, with a
certain tendency to lack of tact. |
