Background:
Born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands on July 15th 1977, the youngest child of three to Marie and Erik Van der Waals. He has a brother, Rikj, and a sister, Agnise. Luikas joined the Royal Netherlands Air Force in 1988 and quickly took to the field of linguistics, attached to anthropology.
 

He spent the following years furthering his training in both fields, both in the Netherlands as well as in Germany, before being transferred to the Middle East – namely, Jordan. He ended up in west coast USA before finally being transferred to the Stargate Project.

Psychological Profile:
Luikas Van der Waals has shown that, despite his initial shyness, he has an active sense of humor. Once the first steps have been taken to overcome what appears to be a natural reluctance to socialize, he is a loyal and protective person, often risking himself somewhat recklessly to protect those he cares for.

He shows a tendency to almost try to please too much, possibly in compensation for what he sees as personal withdrawal. This withdrawal is based purely on his inherent shyness, and should not be seen as a reluctance to communicate.

It should be noted for potential problems within the field that due to a childhood accident and subsequently almost drowning Luikas has a paranoid and morbid fear of water but this aside I see no reason why he shouldn't be an asset to any field team.
