Stargate Beta: Avalon Colony was established in 2004 as a join effort of both Stargate Beta (Area 111) and the Stargate Command Facility. Commanded by the same personnel as Area 111, Avalon is the first off-world Earth colony. Avalon Colony is located on P4J-8282, a world not located on the Abydos Cartouche. With its similarities to Earth, the inhabitants of Avalon Colony have made it their second home, fitting in and enjoying their work.

The primary function of Avalon Colony is the continued pursue of Earth's exploration of space. The colony consists of nine various departments devoted to research, and several Squads for exploration. Avalon Colony reports directly to Area 111, receiving personnel, supplies and assignments from the Anchorage, Alaska Base. Avalon Colony's Squad's perform tasks and missions necessary to the development and helpful to the research conducted at the colony.
