Below is a glossary of terms used in PBEM RPGing.

If you have any questions, please contact the GM, AGM or you team CO.

Thanks to Hammer of Stargate: Command for letting us, er, borrow her glossary!

AGM: Assistant Game Master - an appointed officer of the GM who has the same authority as the GMs where players are concerned.

AC: See Avalon Colony.

Avalon Colony: Stargate Beta's off-world colony.

Canon: Anything that has been mentioned in the show (i.e.: established facts from the actual series that have been stated -- Jack O'Neill is the CO of SG-1.)

Fanon: Anything that is not canon.

GM: Game Master - the person(s) in charge of running the game and ensuring that the game runs smoothly.

IC: In character - anything included in the post (opposite of OOC)

JP: Joint Post - a post written via email or a chat room by more than one character (or player).

LOA: Leave of Absence. Players should request LOA when they're going to be away from their computers/won't be able to post for a given length of time. This also saves characters from being deleted for inactivity.

Message Board: Stargate Beta's Message Board, a place for all OOC discussions, announcements, and general chit-chat.

NPC: Non-playing character - a background character that is not actively posted for, but is still a part of either a storyline or a team.

OOC: Out of character - used to clarify comments that are not a part of the post, but come from the player instead

PC: Playing character - a normal character with a player

Player: A person who controls a character

RL: Stands for 'Real Life'. The general string of activities that players do when away from the computer.

RPG Room: Refers to the #stargaterpg IRC chat room on the irc.webmaster.com server. Instructions on getting to the room can be found in the shared files at the Yahoo list site.

Tag: Used when writing a joint post to indicate that it is another player's turn to write. If there are only two people writing, a tag simply means it is the other person's turn to write. If there are more than two people writing, a tag will be written to include the person's name (either player or character). If not, a nameless tag means that it is open for anyone to write the next part.

The List: The Stargate Beta mailing list at Yahoo! Groups where all of the posts for the game are sent to.

To submit an addition to this list, please forward ideas to the GMs.
